This one might be a little gross for some folks so head on over to the cute kitty site if you don’t wanna hear about it!
I had another post-op check up with Dr. Godin today. I told him I was feeling good mostly. I’ve been feeling congested in the left nostril and feel like it doesn’t completely come clear, even with the nasal rinse. (I didn’t tel him I’d been looking up my nose with a flashlight on a regular basis and so I knew there was a gross hunk of what appeared to be crystallized snot far back in that nostril.) I’ve also had some post-nasal drip the past 2 days (which I suspect is related to the congestion). Teeth numbness persists. Slight aching (1 on the pain scale) in my nose (I suspect from the septum).
He looked up my nose and immediately got out the nose vacuum. This is kind of like a dentist’s suction tool only it has a lone narrow metal tube on the end, about the size of a plastic coffee stirrer. He cleared out the “crusting” in both nostrils. It felt like he was vacuuming all the way down my throat! Quite unpleasant but the results were that I immediately felt clearer.
Dr. Godin says things are healing up very well and that it all looks good. He frowned when I asked about nose-blowing or sneezing. No go, yet. (I’ve been sneezing a lot this week and have been good about remembering to keep my mouth open so the rush of the air comes through my mouth and not my healing nose. It’s quite unsatisfying to sneeze this way.) He did clear me to go back to the gym for some light cardio and light weight lifting. (A friend tells me she was allowed to lift 50-75% of her normal weight when she went back to the gym after her hernia surgery so I figure this is a good baseline for me at this point.) I see Dr. Godin again in 2 weeks. In the meantime I continue to use the nasal rinse twice daily.
