Splints are out!

I saw Dr. Godin this morning to have the splints removed. The removal was pretty easy. He snipped the stitch that was holding the splints in place and then used a long tweezer to pull them out. I was prepared for how big they were but wow I can’t believe THAT was in my nose! I’ll post a photo later (yes, I asked the doctor if I could take one with me). It felt weird to have them pulled out but what a relief to have the splints out and have my nose cleaned. After pulling the splints (which were mucous and blood-clot covered) Dr. Godin used a little suction to vacuum my nose out (which felt great since I haven’t been able to blow my nose for a week). Immediately I was able to breathe out of both nostrils.

Dr. Godin numbed my nose and placed a scope in it to look around. He said everything looks like it’s healing up just fine. I asked him which procedure he had used on my turbinates (remember he said he was going to decide when he got into the operating room.) He said he did a sub-mucosal resection as my turbinates were too big for coblation.

Going forward, I need to rinse my nose twice a day. I’m not allowed to blow my nose for another week. I’m still not allowed to exercise much but he did clear me for some light exercise on a stationary bike. He said the odd feeling in my upper teeth could take 6 weeks to 6 months to clear up.

Leaving his office, it felt weird to breathe through my nose. It was slightly uncomfortable but I think that’s because the inside is still a little raw. Now that I’m in the office, breathing through my nose is much more comfortable. And, as I suspected, my taste is back to normal now that my nose is clear.
