Alice

 

I started this quilt at a Quiltaway in 2009. The pattern is "A Cluster of Luster" by M&J's Quiltaways. This quilt is named "Alice" as in "To the Moon, Alice!" Oddly, every time I think of the title of this quilt, Tom Waits' song "Alice" (which has nothing to do with the quilt) runs through my head. So while "Alice" comes from "to the moon Alice", I always hear "And the wind whispers 'Alice'".

 Quilt detail. I outlined the planets from the fabric. Rockets are based on rockets detail from backing fabric.

Quilt detail. Freeform planets in green sections. Rockets based on backing fabric pattern.

Quilt detail. These sections were quilted by outlining rockets from the reverse side.

Quilt detail and binding. Borders have outline quilting on the red circles. Quilt is self-bound by hand.
